Miniature Quilting

Those who've followed my blog for a while will know I have two main crafting hobbies - dollhouse miniature food and patchwork. So I've decided to combine these skills and had a go making 12th scale dollhouse miniature patchwork pieces. Remember that little pine bed I acquired? Ah it all makes sense now.

Here is my first effort - a 12th scale dollhouse miniature double quilt.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/littletimewasters?section_id=16981447&ref=shopsection_leftnav_5

The quilt measures approx 6.25" x 6.5" and is entirely hand sewn.

I used the same English paper piecing technique I used for my real-sized patchwork projects, just a teeny-tiny version. Each hexagon edge measures 1/4 of an inch. This was fiddly!

I've made a new section in my Etsy shop, and I hope to add more miniature quilts soon.

If you're interested in having a go at English paper piecing (doesn't have to be hexagons, it works on loads of shapes) then I highly recommend this tutorial.

It's how I learnt to paper piece. Of course I wouldn't recommend you start off using tiny 1/4" hexagons! One to two inch sides will go faster and help keep you sane.

Bed time

I don't order dollhouse miniatures very often (other than plates etc. as supplies for making my miniature food) so when I do, I get pretty excited about it when they arrive.

This cute little 12th scale pine bed arrived this afternoon.
Love the detail on end and the little round knobs on the bed posts.

I only ordered it yesterday, so well done Minimum World for your impressively fast shipping. It was the first time I have used their website.

Anyway, the reason behind buying this dollhouse miniature bed is a secret.
Hopefully I will be able to share it soon.

Cupcakes

There are some new little cupcakes available in my Etsy shop
And they come presented on a lovely cake stand.

At last I made a new miniature! Well not wholly new, I've made cupcakes on stands before, but new enough it warranted getting my camera out and taking new photos. Hurrah!

Stew

Here is a dollhouse miniature stew I made recently. I quite like the simple ceramic dish, although as usual I put a little too much stew in the dish and now it doesn't close properly! Never mind, it's still pretty scrummy looking.

Out of Season

For some reason I often get inspired to make seasonal items completely out of season. This time I started a distinctly autumnal sewing project in early Spring. Who cares, I had lots of lovely brown and orange fabric scraps to use. So use them I did.

I used the same diamond star English paper piecing technique from my star cushion, but it became something to decorate the centre of a table or a very large pot stand.

Etsy coupon

Everyone deserves a little treat from time to time. Perhaps a cup of tea?

Or a slice of cake (or two!)?

Or even breakfast in bed, why not?!

And for my lovely Etsy customers, I'm running a discount coupon for a limited time
as my way of saying thank you.

It runs until Easter Monday (April 6th 2015) and entitles you to 10% off your order
for orders over $35.00 (exluding postage). Just my way of showing my appreciation!

The code you'll need to enter at the checkout is:

So why not swing by Little Time Wasters and see if anything takes you fancy.
We all deserve a little treat from time to time, why not a miniature one?

Flower Power

I made another real life sized patchwork cushion.

I used a new technique for me, using appliqué to sew a Dresden plate pattern. I used one with rounded edges as I think it's the prettiest.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/littletimewasters?section_id=16119347&ref=shopsection_leftnav_10

This came together satisfyingly quickly - I completed the whole cushion front entirely by hand in one evening. I usually take at least a week to hand sew a cushion as I keep opting for ridiculously small patch sizes, but this was much faster!

Click here for a tutorial on how to sew a Dresden plate, and click on the image below for the full pattern if you're interested in having a go yourself.

Mini Musings

Tiny things, little stuff.
I just cannot get enough.

Everything is better small.
Dinky dolls, I love them all.

Miniatures to scale and true,
Minuscule is what I do.

'Cept when I drop them on the floor,
And they can't be found no more.*

*I hate double negatives but it fit better and artistic license and blah blah blah.

Gourd Dollhouses

So apparently gourd dollhouses are a thing? How can I have missed this! In fairness to me, gourds are not such a common thing to find in my part of the world, but still, look at all this cuteness!

I even found a very thorough tutorial online, so if I ever get my hands on a gourd, I may have a go.

Spring is in the air

I love when Spring arrives. The world gets a little greener, the air gets a little warmer,
there are baby birds flitting about and daffodils in my garden!
Plus it means Winter is done and Summer is on its way. What is not to love?

Here are some dollhouse miniatures I found on Etsy that remind me
Sping is here and good times are coming.

Stars in your eyes

I made a diamond star patchwork cushion recently as a prize for a raffle. It's not a dollhouse miniature, but these were quite small, fiddly patches as I seem unable to resist from making things smaller than usual!

https://www.etsy.com/shop/littletimewasters?section_id=16119347&ref=shopsection_leftnav_10

I used the English paper piecing technique to achieve precise joins, and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. Hopefully whoever wins the raffle will enjoy it too.
