Merry Christmas

It's Christmas Eve and I am 38 weeks pregnant. Have I had the baby, haven't I? I don't know because I am writing this post in advance. No offense to my lovely readers, but I have other things to be doing on Christmas Eve (like baking and putting my feet up and trying to find something nice to wear tomorrow!).

Anyway, regardless of my current baby-carrying status, I'd still like to wish you all
a Merry Christmas 2015!

And a few more Christmassy miniatures because why not?

Still crafting

I may have had to put a hold on the miniatures for now while I await my impending new arrival, but I'm still crafting when time allows. Here is my first ever attempt at a cardigan and booties, and my second attempt at a baby hat (the first one did not end well!).

I cannot decide if my favourite part is the TEENY TINY pompom on the hat.
Seriously the cutest thing I've ever made, it's no more than 2cm across.

Or the world's happiest piggy buttons. They are so excited!

Anyway, for a first attempt I'm quite happy with how it all turned out. Baby will be able to wear this a few times and it will hopefully stay together for as long as needed. Plenty of little mistakes in there, but plenty of learning done too. Thankfully my mother, who is an awesome knitter, has made me some outfits I feel confident will outlast the baby's size stage.

Cheerio for a short time

Now I'm 37 weeks pregnant and officially off work, it's getting hard to ensure I can make it to the post office with any regularity. Plus I expect the impending arrival of my favourite new miniature to be a bit of a distraction!
So I've decided to temporarily close my Etsy shop for the time being. I haven't set a grand re-opening date, but it certainly will re-open once I feel like I am getting the hang of this motherhood business. Please keep checking out the blog as I will announce it here first.
Thanks for your well wishes during this time. I am equally excited and daunted by the upcoming change to our lives, but really I can't wait to become a mum. Well, I'd appreciate being able to finish my Christmas dinner in peace, but once that's done, bring on the baby!
Merry Christmas from me and the bump!

Happy Miniature Thanksgiving

We may not celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK (although we're starting to have Black Friday oddly!) but I still think it's a great idea for a holiday, and certainly makes me pause and remember what I'm thankful for.

Here are some Thanksgiving miniatures.

Now I really want to eat some turkey!

Christmas Posting Dates

It's that time of year again! If you're looking for a cute wearable miniature, or a 12th scale dollhouse piece for your favourite collector this Christmas, then please check out LittleTimeWasters on Etsy.

But don't wait too long. International post from the UK to the USA/Canada usually takes 1-2 weeks, but to avoid disappointment here are the latest recommended posting days to get your package before Christmas.

USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Greece - 5th December

Mainland Europe - 10th December

UK - 14th December

Please note, these dates are not guarantees that your package will arrive in time for Christmas, they are just what the Post Office recommends. If you place an order after these dates, of course I will still ship as soon as possible. Also please note the time difference. If you're in the States and you order anything after 5pm, chances are I will be asleep. I'll post it the next day of course.

On a related note, I'll be extremely pregnant by Christmas (baby due early January). It's difficult to predict these things, but I'll see how I go and might temporarily close the shop in January once the little one has arrived. So if there's something you like the look of, don't wait too long!

My first knitted blanket

Since my initially disastrous first attempts at knitting, I have been practising and decided to make a baby blanket for my impending miniature arrival. I stuck with just using a knit stitch (no purling) as the rows would be easier to count and it should keep it's flat shape better.

We haven't found out the gender in advance, so greens and yellows are my theme. I'd like to have done an awesome pretty photo of it in the cot, all ready to go, but alas we are not that organised and don't have a cot or crib just yet. It's okay, we will get there!

I'm quite pleased with the outcome. It looks quite neat to the untrained eye. Although I need to get better at stitching rows together, there is a marked improvement on this as you look from side to the other. All I can say is, it's a good thing pregnancy lasts as long as it does, or this would never have been finished in time! Frankly I'm astonished I got this done with 9 weeks to spare (due after Christmas). Who knows, I might go wild and do some hats and booties! (Or I might just let my knitting supreme mother do those.)

I was featured in a treasury on Etsy full of sweet dollhouse delights.

They all look delicious. Click on the image for a closer look and links to each shop.

Babies on the Brain

I think (well I hope) I can be forgiven for having babies on the brain. I appreciate pregnancy is often not so interesting to those not directly involved, so I try not to bleat on too much. But I can still use it as an excuse to share some miniature baby cuteness. Of course I can! And I still don't know what I'm having (not planning on finding out either) thus the mix of pink and blue.

Pretty Pastels

I made a couple of real-sized patchwork cushions for my mother-in-law recently. They're to go in a little girl's bedroom whose colour scheme is pastel blue and pink with a dash of yellow, so that's what I did. The front was entirely hand-sewn, I'm still obsessed with hexagons. It's so therapeutic!

I made two in total, using the same fabrics although not set out identically.

The back is blue gingham with an envelope opening.

Hopefully she likes them!

The Tutorial Page

When I am feeling super motivated, I like to make tutorials for making miniature. I keep them all on The Tutorial Page (look to the right for a quick link under my Etsy Shop app) so you can find them all easily. There are lots of fun, little projects, some such as the liquorice tutorial are very suitable for beginners, some like the egg and soldiers tutorial are a little more advanced, but still very achievable with some basic kit. Remember to check out The Tutorial Page from time to time as I add new ones.

It's time for pancakes in my Etsy shop. These make me really want some!

I love arranging all the tiny miniature fruit and cream around the pancakes when I make these. It's extremely satisfying! I really need to make some more dollhouse miniature strawberries, those things are fiddly!

Meat and Veg

Here is a scrummy looking meat and veg miniature platter I recently listed in my Etsy shop.
It contains beef, salami, cucumber, tomatoes, carrots and red onion.
And with a penny for scale:
I really enjoyed making the beef slices, although the texturing does take a while!

The leaves are turning yellow, the weather is turning colder, the long evenings are turning into long nights. It's that time of year when everything is turning. Here are some autumnal dollhouse miniatures to enjoy rather than focusing  the ever shortening evenings.

My dream shop in miniature

I love miniatures and I love patchwork and quilting, and joy of joys I love when someone combines the two! Below is an adorable dollhouse miniature quilt shop created by Blondie's Miniature Club in France. Je l'adore!

I just wish there was a place like this in real life near to where I live!

Snug as a bug in a rug

I don't make miniature rugs (yet another thing I would one day like to try) but here are some beautiful examples of handmade, 12th scale dollhouse miniature rugs which I enjoyed drooling over.

It's September and weather seems to have turned in my neck of the woods.
Autumn is well and truly on its way. But never mind,
let's enjoy some wrap-up-warm miniatures and look forward to snow!

Happy Harvest

How does your garden grow? Mine did okay this year bearing in mind we didn't dedicate the time and energy we would have liked to. So far we've had sweetcorn, spinach, lettuce, carrots, millions of green beans (millions, really), strawberries, 2 blackberries (it's a new plant!), cooking apples and soon we will have some onions and leeks too. I also received lots of raspberries and new potatoes from various neighbours which was very welcome. I love home-grown produce!

Here are some handmade produce in miniature to keep with the agricultural theme.
