Blog feature

I have been featured alongside lots of other cute miniature food over at Benedetta Crafty's blog!

As well as checking out some oh-so-adorable miniatures, she is also running a competition and the prize is a money off coupon for her Etsy shop. To be in with a chance of winning, check out her blog (and all that lovely mini food too of course).
Here's one of my favourite featured pieces on there, this reminds me so much of the French bakeries where my gran lived! Minis are even better when they invoke a little nostalgia.

Piece of Cake

One of the workshops I teach is how to make sweet little slices of cake for jewellery making. Here are some of my little cake slices in action.
Om nom nom!
Unfortunately I've not been able to teach a workshop in a while as the premises I used to use are no longer available. Hopefully I'll get a chance to teach another workshop some time soon, I enjoy doing them.

Gingerbread remodel

As I mentioned in my last gingerbread post, I thought a couple of the houses didn't look quite finished. So here they are with added bases.

The festive gingerbread house with meringues and sprinkles

meringue and gumdrop garden

I really like the gumdrop path by the door.
I think they look a lot more finished than they did before. Hopefully you agree, as I can't undo it now!

I love jelly

I love jelly (or jello as our American friends call it). I love the taste of it, the look of it and especially the weird way it moves. And I love making miniature versions of it too! Here's my latest effort.

I'm famous (on the internet anyway)

I participated in Chance to Dance in Sheffield last weekend. It was swelteringly warm by British standards, but no major mishaps occurred and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I've only just got round to trawling the internet to see if anyone managed to get a decent photo of the event. And guess what I found on the Chance to Dance Flickr page? Only muggins here as the avatar photo! Hah! My moves may not always be perfect, but at least I can smile! For a rare glimpse of yours truly, check out their Flickr page (sadly it won't let me post the pics here). This is what I'm up to when I'm not making miniatures, although I rarely make a habit of wearing lycra in public, honestly.

Scrap Clay

What do you do with your scrap clay? I hate to throw perfectly good Fimo away, so I try to find uses for leftover clay from the misshapen  end of canes. Sometimes I use them as 'innards' for things that later get covered, or sometimes I mix them up some more and make new colours, or funky patterns.

The other day I had some leftover shades of green from my leek-making session. I was playing with it absent-mindedly, and ended up making this little chap. Due to the random way the shaded Fimo was squashed together, he is shaded on one side and contrasting on the other. I rather like him!

I've no idea what I'll do with him, but I've baked him now so he's a keeper. What random uses have you put your leftover Fimo to?

Candy Time

I've been making my beloved heart candies in a variety of colours recently. I really enjoy making these, although cutting them up into individual candies takes AGES!
And here is what I made with the leftover purple cane.

Chance to Dance

It's Chance to Dance in Sheffield today, so I'm doing my part and making a spectacle of myself in public. I'll be performing jazz (broadway style) and tap dancing. It's also the hottest weekend ever, and I've nowhere to get changed so will be wearing my two costumes one under the other. Oh happy days!

I'll let you know how wonderfully well (or badly) it went once I've recovered my composure (or recovered from heatstroke, whichever takes longest).

Wish me luck!

Christmas in July

I didn't quite make the candy shop of my dreams this week, but I did complete enough miniature candy to make some very cute gingerbread houses. I know it's early, so let's call it Christmas in July. Why should we only have gingerbread houses at Christmas anyway?

Here is my latest 12th scale creation. I'm very pleased with how the gingerbread itself turned out. The colour is not too flat.

The Rainbow Gingerbread House

I made these mottled purple hearts using
the leftover clay from my purple heart candy cane
(as seen on the roof).
I haven't yet decided if the next couple of gingerbread houses are 'finished'. This very festive one looks a little too bare to me, but I don't want to overdo it.
I'm loving the little white 'smoke' coming out of the chimney pot.

And this gingerbread house somehow ended up a little squat looking, so I think I shall add a base and garden to it. The great thing about fimo, is you can re-cook it as many times as you look. Handy when you have no clear design plan in mind like me!

I also have a few more completely blank gingerbread houses left to decorate, so when inspiration hits, I shall be ready! I'll update when I've finalised these designs.

Candy o' clock

It's time for some food inspiration and today it's one of my favourites - both to make in miniature and eat in real life - candy! If I had the time and space, I would love to make a dollhouse miniature candy shop, and it would look a lot like Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe because I love the aesthetics (as well as the sweets of course) of the place. It's not going to happen in the near future, but in the meantime, here's something to aim for.

How amazing would that look in miniature!?

And the winner is...

I've picked the winner of the giveaway competition at random for my 4 year anniversary giveaway.

Drumroll please...

                                 ...and the lucky winner is:

                          Maria Ireland!

Hurrah! Please get in contact with me via the blog (or send me a convo on Etsy if you prefer), so I can get this sent to you as soon as possible.

Thanks to everyone who entered and gave some great suggestions on which miniature desserts I should make next. Hopefully I will get inspired and get mini-making.

Summer Miniatures

What with Wimbledon and the Glastonbury Festival coinciding on the same weekend, the British Summer was bound to come to a screeching halt this week. So I have made a treasury on Etsy featuring some lovely summery dollhouse miniatures, in hope of remembering what that season used to be like. Check out some cute miniatures and share some love!

My favourite is the little croquet set! We used to spend the summer at my granny's house in the south of France, and she had a battered old croquet set (nowhere near as smart as that miniature version!) so croquet very much reminds me of the Summer. That and Alice in Wonderland.
