24th scale miniatures

I have made some 24th scale (half inch scale) miniatures which is very rare for me. I made a pan of tomato soup, a pan of stew, some chocolate cake and a couple of cups of tea. I just adore the tiny 24th scale ceramics teapot and cups. I might get into making more half scale items just so I have an excuse to play with more tiny accessories!

They're pretty simple ones, but I enjoyed working in a different scale to usual. I will keep them for my Squirrel Tree project, which is loosely 24th scale.

Branding Pro

Running a crafting businesses isn't just about how good you are at your specific craft. I like to think I'm not too bad at the actual making part. It's about much, much more than that. Apparently, you have to think about how to sell and pricing and marketing and visibility and all that jazz. It's not my forté.

Until recently I hadn't given my packaging much thought beyond will it get to its destination in one piece (which thankfully it does!). But since I started to sell at make + MADE it became more necessary, as in that venue I sell alongside lots of other handmade artisans, and I'd like my customers to know who I am.

So I finally got to making some kind of branding. I wanted something simple but bright and cheerful. So far I've only done this for the stock for sale at make + MADE but I hope to eventually roll it out to all my jewellery and dollhouse miniatures. Plus I enjoy using the stamper!

Happy St George's Day!

Happy St George's Day to all you English folk. Here are some marvellously English miniatures for us to enjoy. It's the dragon I feel sorry for.

She thinks she's made of candy

What's my latest breakthrough? Making candy that isn't pink!

Of course, I still make candy that is pink. I couldn't go cold-turkey altogether.
One day I might branch out into the unknown. There could be green, purple, even orange candy! Never let it be said I lack imagination.

Breakfast time

I made some more miniature full English breakfast recently. I used some pretty blue and white plates which I think contrast nicely with the orange tones of the food.

That's enough bean-rolling for one day!

Pretty in Pink

A full month after the event, I finally plucked up the courage to share a photo of my rather fetching dance troupe from the show I did in March. This is my ladies' jazz dance class and I think you'll agree we're all rather gorgeous in our show costumes.

I'll leave it a mystery which one I am. With hindsight, those neon pink tights and belts didn't look half as awful as I imagined they would. Still not sold on the leopard print though! Anyway, let's get back to making miniatures, lest this newfound appreciation of pink become a habbit.

Time for Tea

I'm one of those weird English people who doesn't like tea. But that doesn't mean I don't find it aesthetically pleasing. Here is a tea-themed ring I made recently using some very cute miniature ceramics.

I also don't like coffee! Told you I was weird.

Making the Squirrel Tree Part 2

The Squirrel Tree has been painted! I also covered the little side building in wooden planks, which will also be painted so they look a little weathered and don't stand out so much. In this photo, I have begun to grass the base, as well as lay stones along the front path.

Internally, I have painted some walls and made a little fireplace. I am not sure I'll keep that wall colour, but I am in love with the little fireplace. It is made from tiny stones which I've superglued together (along with my fingers). A couple of dried out twigs from my garden form the mantlepiece. It isn't glued in position inside the treehouse, so I may change its location yet.

Inspiration 5 a day style

All my inspirational food posts seem to revolve around unhealthy (but delicious) goodies, so here are some yummy ideas that won't expand your waistline.

I must make more miniature fruit, I must make more miniature fruit. And I must eat more real life fruit too!

I just thought this one was funny.

New experiment

As promised to myself in the New Year, I've been experimenting with new techniques, and here are my latest results.

A jar of meringues in white and pink. I worked out how to make white meringues some time ago, but I struggled to get coloured ones to look okay. I'm hoping I have finally sussed it now!
Now I can make merinques (and cream) in any colour, truly I have no limits!
